Abstract. One of the most important parameters of the Earth’s gravitational field is the second derivation of the gravitational potential, i.e. the gravitational gradient. Measuring the gradient provides solutions to a wide range of tasks, including the search for and monitoring of mineral deposits, the development of national geodetic networks, and the creation of navigational gravimetric maps. Currently, there is no production of ground-based gravitational gradiometers as tools for measuring gradients. This work presents the results of the development and testing of a horizontal gradiometer model using torsion balances.
Keywords: Earth’s gravitational field, gravitational potential gradient, gradiometer.
