Abstract. The study provides a theoretical basis and experimental confirmation for the implementation of a height system by the method of chronometric leveling at a centimeter level of accuracy. Theoretical and practical issues of the transition from the difference of gravitational potentials obtained by chronometric leveling to height differences are considered. Theoretical estimates and the results of numerical experiments are presented, which show the approximate values of errors that occur during such a transition. It is noted that one of the main tasks of implementing the height system by the chronometric leveling method is to determine the heights of the points of relevance of stationary standards, with the exception of systematic errors.

Keywords: chronometric leveling, gravitational potential, elevation system, Fundamental Astronomical and Geodetic Network (FAGN).
