Annotation. The article discusses the main trends in the development of communication network technologies and equipment for time-frequency support. The increased requirements for time-frequency synchronization are stated, links are provided to the current recommendations of the International Telecommunication Union. The article describes the prospects for the use of coherent systems of time-frequency support. A conclusion is made about the prospects of using fiber-optic communication lines to provide coherent time-frequency systems with reference signals of frequency and time.
