Annotation. The problems of calibration of an autonomous underwater sound recorder are discussed. In most cases, the design of the recorder does not provide its compatibility with the reference facility, which prevents the recorder from being calibrated using the existing reference base. It is impossible to create an acoustic signal required for testing a smart recorder because of the projector non-ideality and sound reverberation in the sound-measuring part of the reference facility. Recorder calibration problems are aggravated by the lack of standards that would contain requirements for characteristics and design, test methods, verification and periodic calibration of the recorder. The disadvantages of using the IEC 60565 standard on hydrophone calibration for calibration of the recorder are discussed. Information on the approach to recorder calibration based on obtaining of it laboratory model, from which the recorder sensitivity is calculated in relation to various measuring tasks, is given.

Key words: autonomous underwater sound recorder, measuring instrument, calibration, traceability, compatibility with the reference installation, laboratory recorder model.
