Quantum gravimeters based on ultracold atoms

Gravimeters find applications in several fields of science and technology. Together with a gravity-field map, a gravimeter may form a basis for a satellite-free navigation. Gravimeters are important in the search for subsoil assets, study of the earth’s crust and climate change, creation of a new generation of atomic clocks, as well as in the detection of gravitational waves and quantum effects in gravity.
