Abstract. The article is devoted to the optimization of sub-pixel determination of the temperature of remote objects located against the background of natural objects with a known temperature. A method of extreme sub-pixel determination of the temperature of such objects is proposed. It is shown that by performing two-band measurements of an object surrounded by a known background and presenting the results of channel measurements as a linearly weighted sum, it is possible to calculate such a value of the weight factor at which the accepted optimization criterion in the form of the product of the total infrared radiation coming from one pixel in different channels reaches a maximum.
