Abstract. Numerical modelling of relative intensity noise measurement of single-fre­quency lasers by optical heterodyning is presented. It is shown that using the heterody­ning one can achieve a relative intensity noise measurement limit more than 8 dB lower than the conventional method under the same conditions.
