This article provides brief information about food spoilage due to short shelf life. The effect of ionizing radiation on biological objects in order to preserve, extend the shelf life of products, reduce contamination, etc. is briefly considered. Data on the values of absorbed doses during radiation treatment of certain food products, developed in the USSR radiation technologies for food processing, developed regulatory documents for food dosimetry and state standard samples of absorbed dose are presented.

Key words: radiation processing, food products, ionizing radiation, absorbed dose, dosimetry, state standard samples, regulatory documentation.
