Abstract

Currently, the density of transmitting radio stations on the air is extremely high, which places stringent requirements on the accuracy and stability of reference frequency oscillators in transmitting devices. To ensure high stability, it is necessary to maintain constant temperature as well as constant electric and magnetic field strengths. Consequently, oscillators require a significant warm-up time after power-on to reach their operating mode. Furthermore, the frequency stability of oscillators is affected by the aging process of their constituent components. This results in continuous frequency and phase drift of the oscillators. While solutions exist to compensate for these drifts, frequencies will nevertheless always fluctuate, thus requiring adjustment against reference oscillators. This can be achieved using reference signals broadcast worldwide by dedicated radio stations. This article is devoted to methods for synchronizing the frequency of precision oscillators with broadcast frequency standards.
